O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds. 47 And fear a Day whereon not in aught shall a soul satisfy for a soul, nor shall intercession be accepted thereof, nor shall compensation be received therefor, nor shall they be succoured. 48 Remember, We saved you from the Pharaoh's people who wronged and oppressed you and slew your sons but spared your women: In this was a great favour from your Lord. 49 Remember, We parted the sea and saved you, and drowned the men of Pharaoh before your very eyes. 50 And when We appointed a time of forty nights with Musa, then you took the calf (for a god) after him and you were unjust. 51 Then after that We forgave you so that you might be grateful. 52 Remember that (at that very time, when you were committing this gross iniquity) We gave Moses the Book and the criterion of right and wrong so that you might be guided aright. 53 And when Moses said to his people, 'My people, you have done wrong against yourselves by your taking the Calf; now turn to your Creator and slay one another. That will be better for you in your Creator's sight, and He will turn to you; truly He turns, and is All-compassionate.' 54 And when you said to Moses: 'We will not believe in you until we see Allah openly' a thunderbolt struck you whilst you were looking. 55 Then We brought you back to life in the hope that you might appreciate Our favors. 56 And We shaded you with clouds and sent down on you Al-Manna and the quails, (saying): "Eat of the good lawful things We have provided for you," (but they rebelled). And they did not wrong Us but they wronged themselves. 57 And when We said, “Enter this town and eat freely from what is in it, and enter the gate whilst prostrating, and say, ‘May our sins be forgiven’ – We will forgive you your sins; and We will soon increase the reward for the righteous.” 58 But the transgressors changed the word from that which had been given them; so We sent on the transgressors a plague from heaven, for that they infringed (Our command) repeatedly. 59
