The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
