In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
