Al-Hijjr 5 of 6
When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 Therefore go forth with your followers in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round, and go forth whither you are commanded. 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
