And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam, they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not); he refused. 116 Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil. 117 It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked, 118 “And that you never feel thirsty nor hot sunshine hurt you.” 119 But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? 120 So the two of them ate of it, and their shameful parts revealed to them, and they took to stitching upon themselves leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, and so he erred. 121 Then his Lord chose him, and relented toward him, and guided him. 122 God said, "Go down, both of you, from here, as enemies to one another." If there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will not lose his way, nor will he come to grief, 123 But he who turneth away from remembrance of Me, his will be a narrow life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection. 124 He will say: O my Lord! why hast Thou gathered me sightless whereas surely I have been a seer. 125 (Allah) will say: "Thus didst Thou, when Our Signs came unto thee, disregard them: so wilt thou, this day, be disregarded." 126 Thus We requite him who trespasseth and believeth not in the signs of his Lord, and surely the torment of the Hereafter is most severe and most lasting. 127 Do they not learn a lesson from Our destruction of many generations before them in whose dwelling-places they walk about? Surely in this are signs for men of understanding. 128
