And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
