Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
