The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 in a nearby land. They will reverse their defeat with a victory 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never learned to think for themselves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer! 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
