Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
