The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
