The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
