The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 and taught to him 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
