The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
