The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
