In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
