The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
