The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: 4 Then those who regulate the affair. 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 And the second followeth it, 7 Many a heart will flutter on that day! 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 (The disbelievers) say, "Shall we be brought back to life again 10 After having turned to carious bones?" 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 And lo! they will be awakened. 14 Has Moses' story reached you? 15 Recall what time his Lord called unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa. 16 "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right 17 and say: "Will you purify yourself, 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 And he showed him the tremendous token. 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 and hastily turned away, 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. 26
