The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
