The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 by earth splitting with verdure, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently, 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
