Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
