The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
