The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
