The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
