Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
