He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
