The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And by the earth which splitteth, 12 Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). 13 And it is no joke. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
