Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
