And Harun (Aaron) indeed had said to them beforehand: "O my people! You are being tried in this, and verily, your Lord is (Allah) the Most Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 [Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 He said: O son of my mother! Clutch not my beard nor my head! I feared lest thou shouldst say: Thou hast caused division among the Children of Israel, and hast not waited for my word. 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He replied, "I had the skill (of carving) which they did not have. I followed some of the Messengers's (Moses) tradition, but I then ignored it. Thus, my soul prompted me (to carve a golden calf with an artificial hollow sound). 96 (Moses) said: "Go hence! All your life you are (cursed) to say: 'Do not touch me; and a threat hangs over you which you will not be able to escape. Look at your god to whom you are so attached: We shall verily burn it, and disperse its ashes into the sea. 97 Your Allah is only Allah, than Whom there is no other Allah. He embraceth all things in His knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 As abiders therein. And vile will it be for them on the Day of Judgment as a load! 101 on the Day when the trumpet is blown: for on that Day We will assemble all such as had been lost in sin, their eyes dimmed [by terror,] 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
