And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 It will come upon them suddenly when they are not expecting it. 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 and reminded: for, never do We wrong [anyone]. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers. 215 And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing." 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 Who observes you when you rise (to pray) 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 They incline their ears, and most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
