The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
