The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 emanating from between the loins and the ribs. 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 and so am I: 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
