Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
