The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
