The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
