Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
