The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
