Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
