The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
