The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
