The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
