Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
