He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
