Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return towards your Lord you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
