The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
