Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
