Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
