He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
