Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
