The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
