Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
